What a renters insurance policy covers
While renters insurance coverages may vary from policy to policy, a typical renters policy covers:
- Your Personal Property in Dallas:
For covered losses, this protects your personal property if it’s destroyed or damaged by the following: Fire, lightening, falling objects, smoke, explosion, wind and hail, water damage from plumbing, steam or water heating systems, and vandalism/riots.
Theft: Your personal property in the Dallas area is also protected against loss from theft, including theft on premises (in your home or apartment), theft off premises (away from your residence), stolen or forged checks, and stolen credit cards/counterfeit money.
- Family liability and guest medical expenses:
This protects you for covered losses if you are held legally responsible for damage to someone else’s property or if a guest is accidentally injured in your home in Dallas, TX.
- Your living expenses:
If your residence is damaged and you are unable to live in it, many renters insurance polices will pay additional living expenses incurred due to a covered loss, until your place is habitable, up to a specified amount.
- What is not covered
As a rule, there is no coverage for your possessions in the event of damage due to flood or surface water, earthquake and animal/insect infestation.
- Tailor a policy for you!

Replacement Cost Coverage:
For an extra fee, you may be able to purchase Personal Property Reimbursement coverage. That means that for a covered loss, if your personal property is destroyed or lost, the insurance company will reimburse you the full amount required to replace those items, subject to a deductible.
Cover your special items:
If you have special things you’d like to have more coverage for, you may want to consider a “rider”. For an extra premium, a “rider” is an addition to your policy that will help cover specified pieces of personal property. A “rider” can cover items such as jewelry, watches, furs, silverware, stamp and coin collections and more!
Discounts:
